BIOGRAPHY

The David Trio

Claudio Trovajoli, pianoforte

Andrej Bielow, violin

David Cohen, cello

The David trio debuted in 2004, winning the First Prize and the Bösendorfer Prize for Best Interpretation of Haydn Trios at the International Joseph Haydn Competition for Chamber Music in Vienna, held at the Konzerthaus. They were also both First Prize and Audience Prize winners at the International Chamber Music Competition of Chesapeake MD (USA) as well as First Prize at the Yellow Springs OH (USA) International Competition.

One of the most in demand groups in Europe, the David Trio has performed extensively in Italy (Società del Quartetto in Vercelli, Unione Musicale of Torino, Amici della Musica di Palermo, Concerts from the Quirinale, Amici della Musica di Padova, Pescara, Foggia and Campobasso, Ponchielli Theatre in Cremona, Teatro Verdi of Pordenone, Fazioli Concert Hall), Europe (Casals Festival of Prades, Haydn Festspiel of Eisenstadt, Rohrau Haydn-Gedenkstatte, Allegro Vivo Kammermusik Festival, Montpellier-Radio France, Wigmore Hall of London, Concertgebow of Amsterdam) and South America (Coliseum Theatre in Buenos Aires, Fundaciòn Beethoven of Santiago de Chile).

Since its foundation, the Trio has found inspiration from and coached with world renowned musical figures such as the Altenberg Trio (Vienna) and Hatto Beyerle. The Trio was chosen to represent the European Chamber Music Academy. In 2006, the David Trio was awarded a fellowship from Borletti-Buitoni Trust (London), which helped support the trio’s career and sponsored the first ever recording of complete Schubert Trios – now considered one of the best interpretations of these masterworks – for the Altara label. Recently the David Trio recorded the Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich trios for the Stradivarius label, for which they received high praise in specialized magazines such as Gramophone and Classical Voice. All three musicians of the trio have strong solo careers, and a deep love for the incredibly rich repertoire written for this kind of group. Their next release, in 2016, will be the complete Brahms Trios and the Arensky Trio, once again for the Stradivarius label.
